Ok, I'm 24 and still haven't had my wisdom teeth pulled. After the first Dental X Rays I've had in more than 4 years, I was referred to an Oral Surgeon for my wisom teeth to be removed - yes, all of them. I've actually been dreading this for some time - horror stories having me a little spooked. Another dental visit after that - and some much cleaner teeth and a better feeling about dental professionals, I went on to a consultation today with an Oral Surgeon. I'm cool with this, I think that the place is a little sketchy looking, but after meeting the man to preform the sugery, I'm again put at ease.
Then comes the finances about this. I have Blue Cross of California as a dental provider, and it turns out that this company can be VERY shady about paying for this much needed operation - one of the teeth is growing into the one next to it - pushing against the root. Apearently, Blue Cross will sometimes determine that not all of the teeth need to come out, and therefor, will not pay for Genereal Anasthesia - getting all four wisdom teeth taken out calls for one to be knocked out.
Here's what I'm looking at:
General Anasthesia - $250
Each wisdom tooth extraction - $300 (I need 4)
Blue Cross will pay 80% of what they determine to be necessary, and if they don't determine enough teeth are necessary, then they also won't pay to get me knocked out. WTF! Shit, what the fuck am I paying these evil snakes monthly for?!?
So here it is, THE REAL WORLD, the mean cold real world. It sucks, and it causes stress, and having money makes it all that much easier - which I don't. Hopefully, everything is approved and I can pay minimally to get what I need done.
