Or I should say, why I don't like the mainstream.
On July 2nd, it was my girl's bday. So, a group of us went downtown to a place called Mr. Tiki's Mai Tai Lounge. Everything there was great. The food, service, drinks, atmosphere, etc.
Then, we went to a club called Decos. A slightly "upper class" club. Playing mostly mainstream hip hop and r&b, with a $20 cover and $10 drinks. There are three dance floors, multiple bars, and on this particuar night, a bikini photo shoot going on. The ambiance was cool and interesting when we walked in.
After a while, we felt like dancing, obviously, so we started to get our groove on. But, there was just too many people cramped into this place. Two dance steps, then shove. One more little groove, and bump. Not even the slightest apology from anyone. Just rude mother fuckers walking through the dance floor.
So, I'm a little annoyed with the situation, but still trying to have a good time. It is my girl's bday. I'm dancin with my girl and her friend, and I feel this dude start to turn me around as he's walking by. I fight it a bit, and he keeps pushin. So I throw the guy off me with my elbow, and what do I get, a stare down by some huge black dude. At first, I'm like fuck it, and fuck you. But, its my girl's bday, so I'm like "ah my bad dude."
After a few other incidinces with some freekin weirdos, we decide to take off. My girl coming to the realization that she doesn't like the club scene. I tell her we'll find other places to get our groove on - with better music playing as well.
I'm an underground head for life. Not to sound cliche, but I don't get along with you cookie cutter looking fuckers who pack yourselfs into clubs, all looking the same, singing the same songs shoved down your throats by the big media companies, buying $10 drinks, looking to either fight or fuck. I'd rather go to a hip hop show, where the people on stage deserve to be there. Or a drum and bass party, were if you are bumped into by someone, they A P O L O G I Z E . Over six years of partying in this atmosphere and only had a handful of bad experiences. And in one night at a commercial club, I almost fight 3 different guys, not to metion the fact that there are security guards EVERYWHERE - should tell you something.
